Year 6 Design and Technologies
Solving Real World Problems Through Engineering
Year 6 Design and Technologies
Engage in hands-on learning activities for Year 6 that solve real-world problems using engineering principles and systems. Explore the Year 6 Design and Technology curriculum through exciting projects.
Why these learning activities?
For this assessment/learning activities, the real-world scenarios that I decided to go with all require an understanding of engineering and how to engineer/create objects that solve a real world problem. These activities all relate to the same topics of discussion which include, progression and sustainability within society. The first was bridge making which solves the problem of unstructured structures and road issues.
The other was solar powered vehicles which solve the problem of sustainable transport and the last activity solves the problem of unfiltered water which is a larger problem in move poverty stricken countries. Students are to use their engineering knowledge/creative skills to solve these problems in hands on activities that requires them to think outside the box to solve these issues. Although they do not directly solve the issues it gets students thinking of ways or possibilities to solve these problems if they are presented or find meaning in these issues later in life.
And let's not forget
Curriculum Integration
Discover the knowledge and concepts that underpin each learning activity. Our curriculum integration ensures students develop a deep understanding of the Year 6 Design and Technology curriculum. Teachers can easily identify what students will create to demonstrate their learning.
